| In the United States, the descendants of any one of the following countries are eligible under the Hispanics category. Spain, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Paraguay , Brazil. Students from the following countries are not eligible- Belize, Guyana, Suriname and French Guyana.
The Hispanic Scholarship fund was constituted around three and a half decades ago to meet help the Hispanic community students to find college scholarships and support for higher avenues of education.
Today the Hispanic Scholarship fund offers more than a three hundred million dollar financial aid to the students of the Hispanic community. In figures it translates to nearly ten thousand students of the community. The statistics are so revealing. Almost thirty thousand of these students were the first in their families to attend college. In the present financial year around five thousand Hispanics are availing close to thirty million dollars as Hispanic Scholarship fund to complete their education.
What makes these students eligible for these grants? Of course, the first eligibility is their ethnicity. Second, they should have already processed their college admissions or should have been selected by the colleges and schools for the subjects they have applied for. According to the latest figures close to two thousand of the nation’s different institutes, the almost five thousand Hispanics will pursue their education. Some of them are traveling universities based in Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Some of the common eligibility criteria the Hispanic community student should posses to qualify for a Hispanic Scholarship fund grant are the following. The very first being the ethnicity. Then there is the minimum Grade Point Average or GPA the student will require in order to qualify for the Hispanic Scholarship fund. A student will have to have scored a minimum cumulative score of close to 3.00 Grade Point Average on scale of 4.00. The high school graduating seniors should show the cumulative Grade Point Average for the grades of 9th, 10th and 11th grades.
